Northern Stage’s Artistic Director Erica Whyman (now the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Deputy Director) invited me to curate and direct an anthology of North of England writing, performed by young professional actors from across the North, for Northern Stage’s 40th birthday evening celebrations. Northern Spirit played within Northern Stage’s main stage.

Everyman Unbound was an ambitious and innovative rep season that aimed to celebrate the renegade spirit of the Everyman Theatre, prior to its closure for re-development. ‘It is different and fun but the real joy is to see a regional theatre collaborating with courage and imagination to deliver new writing in a uniquely novel way.’ The Guardian’s Lynn Gardner in her 2011 theatre picks of the year.

Artistic Leadership Professional Development Programme
Mentored by the Artistic Directors and Chief Executives of the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, Liverpool. Funded by the Arts Council of England.
The programme, which I designed, enabled me to be jointly mentored by the Artistic Directors and Chief Executives of the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, and the Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, Liverpool for an 18-month period, as well as spending time, and learning from, the Artistic Directors of many of the major producing theatres within the UK, including Theresa Heskins (New Vic Theatre), Simon Stokes (Drum Theatre, Plymouth), Mark Babych (Bolton Octagon/Hull Truck Theatre) and Hamish Glen (Belgrade Theatre, Coventry).

I’ve designed and delivered accesible and transformative learning experiences for FE and HE level learners throughout the North East, most extensively for learners training within New College Durham’s and Newcastle College’s Performing Arts programmes. I’ve also led remote actor/theatre-maker training courses for East 15 Acting School and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
