EVERYMAN
ADAPTED BY CAROL ANN DUFFY
Everyman is successful, popular and riding high when Death comes calling. He is forced to abandon the life he has built and embark on a last frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defence. But Death is close behind, and time is running out. A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy's adaptation of Everyman is fresh, bold and attention grabbing.
During rehearsals for Everyman I encouraged the acting company to create detailed mood boards within an online platform. illustrating how they saw each of the characters that they played, These visual references acted as a conduit for creative conversation between the costume designer, the company members and myself. The approach proved to be both artistically fruitful and enriching for the actors-in-training, giving them an increased artistic investment in the show, and is now an essential element of every production process that I lead at East 15.
