NORTHERN SPIRIT

AN ANTHOLOGY OF NORTH OF ENGLAND VOICES

Northern Spirit was an anthology of North of England writing that I was commissioned to curate and direct for Northern Stage's 40th birthday evening celebrations. Four young actors from across the North performed a pop-art collage of extracts from plays, novels, short stories and song lyrics. Each extract possessed a strong sense of place and depicted the witty, bitter-sweet experiences of young people growing up in the North of England. Northern Spirit inspired me to develop the ambitious cross-regional theatre project A Wondrous Place.
